FSSAI Licenses

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the primary regulatory body in India responsible for ensuring food safety and standards. Any business involved in the manufacture, processing, storage, distribution, sale, or import-export of food products in India must obtain an FSSAI license or registration. This license ensures that the food products are safe for consumption and meet the standards set by the FSSAI.

Types of FSSAI Licenses:

FSSAI licenses are categorized based on the size and nature of the food business:

FSSAI Basic Registration:

Applicable Entities: Small retailers, petty food manufacturers, hawkers, or temporary stallholders.

Who Needs It: Small food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh (1.2 million INR).

FSSAI State License:

Applicable Entities: Food manufacturers, processors, transporters, storage units, and other food business operators.

Who Needs It: Medium-sized food businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore (2 million INR).

FSSAI Central License:

Applicable Entities: Large manufacturers, importers, exporters, large retailers, e-commerce businesses, and chains with operations in multiple states.

Who Needs It: Large food businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crore or those involved in the import/export of food products, operating in multiple states, or engaged in other large-scale food-related activities.
